Government & IGO’s

Social Media & Crisis Situations: MediaBadger has conducted extensive research for provincial and state government on the use of social media in crisis situations such as natural disasters. Our research was to help government emergency responders to understand how citizens use social technologies to communicate just before, during and after a crisis situation. The result of our research has helped in developing more effective communications before, during and after a natural disaster or civil unrest. Responders and support services have been able to develop technical support systems for citizens and understand citizen behaviours in such situations.

Connected Citizens in Foreign Lands: This federal government department wanted to understand if their citizens living abroad were discussing foreign policy issues as it related to their country of origin. And if they were, would they be interested in developing stronger ties of communications from embassy and consular team members. This project also provided additional information on ways to connect with citizens living in fragile nations in case of a crisis to help them during evacuation situations either natural or manmade.

Tourism Sector:

Anne of Green Gables: Deep Web analysis of social media and online news media for Tourism PEI and the Tourism Industry Association of PEI (TIA/PEI) in 2009 for the re-launch of the ForeverAnne website. Download case study here. The online agency that created the portal had great design cues from this project.

Portland, Maine: The Portland Visitor & Convention Bureau wanted to better understand what tourists from nearby states such as New York and Vermont thought of Portland. In addition they wanted to better understand Canadian and other foreign market tourist views on their city. Our research helped them understand what tourists felt were key sights and attractions, views on food and leisure activities.

Signature Attractions of Atlantic Canada: An in-dept look at online communities and interest groups discussion the Atlantic Canada region for vacations. We uncovered significant discussion by kayakers, the gay community (LGBT) and Europeans. This helped each province’s tourism departments develop a strategic online program (here) for the region. In addition the agency was able to develop a creative design better targeting the market. Download case study here.

Tourism Ontario: The Ontario government wanted to gain some clear insights into online communities in Social Networks, newsgroups and travel forums that were talking about vacationing in Ontario and central Canada. The results gave their marketing agency the decisive information they needed for advertising channels and budget management, including key metrics to measure and understand success. In total, we’ve completed over 25 research projects on Social Media usage for the tourism sector in Atlantic Canada, North Eastern United States, Western Canada and US, Sweden and Norway.

Our detailed research helped their Public Relations agency develop highly focused communications programs and better engage with the public. Download case study here.

Sports Equipment: A manufacturer of sports equipment wanted to determine if there was a lot of discussion in Social Media about sports equipment and if so, what were they talking about and where. Our detailed research and analysis helped their marketing department and ad agency create better ad creative and campaigns to support their dealer network across North America. Download case study here.

In total, we’ve completed over 10 projects for manufacturers of high-tech products, industrial equipment, plumbing components and more. We’ve completed projects for clients in Canada, United States, England, Ireland and France.

Health Care Sector

Teen Mental Health: One of the leading research and knowledge centres for teen mental health in the world is based out of the IWK Children’s and Women’s Health Centre in Nova Scotia, a world-renowned hospital. We conducted in-depth analysis of discussions by both adults and teenagers in Social Media channels, from Facebook and Twitter through to newsgroups and forums. This information provided previously unknown insights to help them form outreach programs and connect with other health care providers. Download case study here.

Hospital Products: The second largest medical products distributor in the U.S. and the world wanted to understand if laboratory workers were discussing products and solutions in Social Media. They were. Our research helped them better target this market segment and guide their 1,400 sales reps across the U.S. and Canada. Download the case study here.

Since 2008 we’ve worked with biotechnology companies, medical device manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies to help them understand not just Social Media, but reputation and investor relations issues on the Web. Often we’ve done this in partnership with their existing public relations and marketing agencies.
